Tips on practicing mindfulness during the day. Practicing mindfulness can help you to become more aware of your surroundings and your physical, emotional, and spiritual connections to any environment you find yourself in. Being mindful in your three-part being — body, soul, and spirit — can enable you to respond maturely to people and situations. When you don’t practice mindfulness, it’s easier for you to fall back into bad habits and react immaturely to people and circumstances.

Thich Nhat Hanh was a Buddhist monk ordained at the age of 16 in Vietnam. He spoke often about mindfulness and how when you change your focus, you can change your life in significant ways. He said, “Breathe in deeply to bring your mind home to your body. Then look at, or think of, the person triggering this emotion: With mindfulness, you can see that she is unhappy, that she is suffering. You can see her wrong perceptions. You can see that she is not beautiful when she says things that are unkind.”

If you want to enhance your personal and professional life, consider the following tips on how you can begin practicing mindfulness during the day.

Start your day with an attitude of gratitude that you are alive. You have an opportunity to choose love and kindness during the day. If you embrace it, you have the chance to make a difference in the world. Those good things can happen when you begin your day with mindfulness. Breathe deeply. Open your heart and mind to all the possibilities that can happen that day. Begin your day with mindfulness. Don’t get stagnated in negativity.

Make a commitment to live the entire day in an attitude of mindfulness. This can be difficult because life is stressful and busy. It is so easy to become distracted by people and things that happen daily. So, you’ll need to make a conscious effort to stay in that mindfulness zone as much as possible throughout the day.

Bring positive reinforcements with you into each day. Keep inspirational notes posted around your workstation or at home so you can see them when you need another dose of positivity. During your break or lunch time at work, listen to positive podcasts from motivational speakers who can help you stay focused on your goals and give you the inspiration to achieve them. Connect with an accountability partner who can help you stay focused on practicing mindfulness during the day. Work with a trusted friend or family member who is on a similar journey so you can encourage and support each other.

If you have time in the day to meditate, that can help you stay focused on your mindfulness journey. If you don’t have time to meditate during the daylight hours, make a point to meditate at night before you go to bed. you’re new to meditating, a variety of free apps provide guided meditation. Some include Insight Timer, Headspace, Aura, My Life, and Smiling Mind.

Change your life in positive and productive ways by practicing mindfulness daily. This effort of cultivating a renewed mindset can enhance your interactions with people. It can open you up to more fulfilled personal and professional relationships simply because you are being strategic in how you engage in an emotionally mature manner.

Thich Nhat Hanh said, “With mindfulness, you can establish yourself in the present in order to touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment.”

Consider the words of Thich Nhat Hanh and embrace mindfulness. When you open yourself to being mindful each day, you truly can connect with “the wonders of life” that you would not be able to see otherwise.
